It seems like only a few weeks ago that I sat down with my laptop and started writing my first play. It is not, as should come as no surprise, a work of literary genius, but I am rather proud of it. The "Sequel" is a lot different, and one that I am not so sure about. As I am not directing that one, it seems like more of a mystery to me. Anyway, today was the day that they were performed for the first time, and the lead up could hardly have been more stressful. Ticket sales had been awful, lines were not really learned, and there was a bit of a lacklustre approach. The play that I was not directing in contrast seemed to be going really well, and today was the first time that I had seen it. What a relief when I did. Rachael had done a fantastic job of it, and I was releieved that at least one of the plays would work out. Further annoyances came with one cast member of mine pulling out ill, and another one not turning up for the rehearsal in the afternoon. However, it would appear that Mrs Plug's rant had worked, and that lines had been worked on. Rather than doing an in depth review of the shows, I will say that they went really superbly well, and that they all pulled it out of the bag. Audiences were better than we suspected, and overall, it was a project that was worth doing.
How did it feel to watch my plays performed for the first time? Well I'm not sure really. I was very proud, very nervous, but overall, I actually enjoyed the experience. We got home at 2 in the morning, absolutely exhausted.
The afternoon had seen a meltdown at Plug Towers, and the whole family feels a little bruised at the moment. We lost one of our Guinea pigs, which was really sad, and didn't help. I need to make sure that now show week is done that I administer lots of hard work and cuddles in the right places.
