We did Family things today. It was just "Nice". We went to the local antiques fair at the Village Hall, and then got a taste for it and went to an Antiques shop and then another Antiques fair. Eldest bought an old powder compact case, which was delightful, and reminded my of my Nan. She used to smell of powder. In fact, she used to work at a company that produced it, and brought home samples. Various cupboards and drawers used to smell the same way also. I do a lot of work in Drama about smell being a real key to the memory and therefore the emotional memory, and this just summed it up for me. Many memories, not all of them altogether comfortable. Youngest was rather taken by a wooden box, which was duly purchased, and then some old coins, which have always held a fascination for her. Mrs Plug was given a book on Degas, who she likes. Today was Mother's Day, and Mrs Plug was spoiled to the extent that bathtime products were given to her, and breakfast delivered according to the UN regulations that apply to Mother's Day. I struggle a bit on Mother's day each year for obvious reasons, and even now, it leaves me feeling a little reflective and maudlin.
