Saturday 18th February

A happy day at Plug Towers, with eldest reaching the age of 18.  We spent the start of the day being pathetic and emotional, went off to work, then did lunch and then it was time to say goodbye and have a nice evening as she popped off to her friends to get ready for her party.  It felt a bit odd, but I suppose that is how birthdays will work from now on.  I really must stop getting maudlin over such things, it serves no purpose other than to make me sulk a little.  We were then descended upon by the Curtis clan, who are over for eldest's surprise homecoming tomorrow.  We spent the evening drinking an awful lot of wine, which was nice.  It feels strange having an adult daughter now.  I think I have begun to feel the passing of time again, which bearing in mind my impending birthday is really not unusual.  I am so very proud of her, and she makes me happy.  Spending much of your life feeling inadequate can mean that when you have a small hand in creating someone special, you at least feel like you have done something worthwhile with your life.  As she leaves the nest over the next few months, I hope she soars as she deserves to do.
