6th September 2012

Well that was the Summer Holidays then.  It only seems like a couple of weeks ago that we were heading off to Wales and getting stuck in a horrific traffic jam, but there you go.  Youngest has gone off to big school, which as I say every year, makes me feel a little bit too old.  I started the holidays with only one teenage daughter, and ended it with two (Due to Birthdays as opposed to a long forgotten tryst I should add).  We worked very very hard, and completed three summer workshops, of which I was proud of all of them.  I really think we can do good things given the chance.  Writing has begun on all the new productions, and we have what appears to be a plan in place for the next 12 months.  We are hoping to launch several new sessions soon, and advertising begins soon.  Mrs Plug starts her new job today, and eldest continues to work hard and attend as many courses as we can fit in.  With auditions starting next month I hope she is feeling more ready and prepared than last year.

I was delighted to see that my good friend Mr Pops has discovered the Smiths....I hope they serve him as well over the years as they have done me.  I shall no doubt be exchanging notes over the next few weeks about them :-)

And so what remains of the year for me?  Well I am currently writing a play dealing with autism, called "Rings around the world", re-writing two more Shakespeare plays (As the originals were rubbish), writing another play called "Opening Doors" about the variety of doors that we walk through in life and they effect they have, a Ghost Story in the form of a play and with any luck, a musical.  We also have an idea for a production for next year during the summer based on some rather popular books.  I am currently directing "An Ideal Husband" with the adult group, and we begin devising two more productions with some of the younger groups in the next week.  We also start work on a Youth Musical production in the next few weeks.

I hope that my sanity will prevail with all of this work.  I realise that I spend too much time prevaricating and not enough doing, and I hope that having someone working for me has changed that.  My focus needs to remain on the final goal at all times!  The only danger to this is my home brewing hobby, which continues with vim and vigour.  Stocks are currently dangerously low, and I may have to consider actually buying some alcohol soon!  This is a sorry state of affairs that I will be remedying rather soon, as I have five demijohns on the go, and 80 pints of beer.  I have decided that making things from scratch is the way forward, and have been looking into foraging and suchlike.  A friend of ours also donated all her late father's home brew equipment, so we have become rather well equipped to deal with such things.  I have a fruit press, and let me assure you dear reader, that I am not afraid to use it.  I have found a rather excellent book that contains lots of hints and tips on how to make all manner of horrific sounding brews.  I am working my way through it, and having rather a lot of fun.  There are one or two other books on the way via Amazon's excellent second hand service, so I suspect that by the time Christmas arrives, our stock should have reached sufficient levels again.  I currently have 40 pints of Stout, and 40 pints of "Winter Warmer" on the go.  My new Keg is on the way (Second hand also).  The whole recycling and re-using thing has got me going, not through any sense of desperate financial restraint, but more out of satisfaction.  With donated fruit, and things we just had lying around, I have managed to get the equivalent of 30 bottles of wine and mead on the go for around £10.  Most of what I have made so far has been rather nice, so I look forward to more results to report soon.  At some point in our bust schedule, I shall be re-arranging the cellar to make our costume area more practical and our Brewery more usable!

I am also missing writing this blog, so I shall be doing it more regularly again!

Now I am away to enjoy the delights of Project management and organisation, which if I remember rightly, can be quite enjoyable when you manage them!
