Friday 1st June

I thought I ought to update with details of my first "Brew", which has now been fermenting for 5 days.  Now if I follow instructions given with the box, I would be putting it into a barrel this week, but no!   I laugh in the face of instructions.  I have discovered an online community of home brewers who are so very helpful and friendly, and have given me all sorts of advice.  Whilst the temptation is there to get it done as soon as possible, I am reliably informed that patience is as much a virtue in brewing as anywhere else.  I shall leave it in the Bucket for another week, and then transfer.  I have to start playing with Hydrometers as well.  This is all very well for brave people who have an understanding of such things, but it's all a bit of a steep learning curve for me.  It is one I am enjoying though.  I am awaiting delivery of another kit today, which will then churn out some elderflower champagne.  I am reliably informed that this is like drinking Smirnoff ice, but a lot cheaper.  This sounds to me like a good thing.  After that, I am sorely tempted with a red wine, which will hopefully be ready in time for our holiday in Pembrokeshire.  All rather fun and exciting.  I am also planning the next beer I try, and looking at something called dry hopping, which involves adding hops to the brew quite early in the process.  I shall report with further updates.

Mrs Plug is oop North for a few days looking after Granny who has been in for an operation.  All is well, and we are all relieved, she is a very precious lady.  Eldest has now finished school for good, and now waits for exam results.  She is, however, working a lot over the next few weeks to pay for various workshops and courses she is going to attend.  I'm very proud of her.

We have also finally nailed down some days in the Lakes with the Pops family, which I am so delighted about,  I thought that we would struggle to find a slot, so I'm really relieved.
